The Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast has appointed Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto as the institution’s new Vice-Chancellor, effective August 1, 2026.

The appointment was announced in an official statement issued on Friday following a special meeting of the university’s Governing Council.

Professor Aheto, who currently serves as Acting Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor of the university, will formally assume the substantive position later this year as part of a leadership transition at the Cape Coast-based institution.

The university said the decision was reached after deliberations by the Governing Council, marking a significant step in the institution’s administrative leadership.

University of Cape Coast, established in 1962, is widely recognised for its contributions to teacher education, research, and public service training in Ghana.

Under its recent leadership, the university has expanded academic programmes, strengthened research output, and increased its influence within Ghana’s higher education sector.

The appointment announcement was signed by Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council.

Professor Aheto had earlier been appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor in September 2025 following directives from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
