Two Arrested Over Alleged GH¢30,000 Bribe Attempt In Narcotics Case
The suspects allegedly offered GH¢30,000 to secure the release of a truck and 175 slabs of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two men who allegedly attempted to bribe a police officer with GH¢30,000 following the seizure of a truck loaded with substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The suspects have been identified as Mark Bangel, a trader from Kpandai in the Oti Region, and Zakaria Arafat, a mechanic residing in Kpando in the Volta Region.
According to the Greater Accra Regional Police Relations Officer, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the incident occurred on Friday, September 11, 2026, when officers of the Bravo SWAT Unit, acting on intelligence, intercepted a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GN 5581-13 at Abofu, near Achimota.
The truck was reportedly travelling from Kpandai and was suspected of transporting and distributing narcotic substances in Accra.
Police said the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled after allegedly spotting the officers.
A subsequent search of the truck led to the recovery of 175 compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The substances were allegedly concealed in three sacks and three “Ghana Must Go” bags.
The truck and the suspected narcotics were subsequently taken to the Accra Regional Police Headquarters for further investigation.
During the investigation, Bangel and Arafat reportedly appeared at the police headquarters, claiming ownership of the truck and the recovered substances.
Police alleged that the two men subsequently attempted to influence the Bravo SWAT Unit Commander by offering him GH¢30,000 to secure the release of the truck and the suspected narcotics.
The two were arrested, and the alleged bribe money was retrieved by the police.
Supt. Obeng further disclosed that investigations had established that the suspects mentioned a third individual identified only as Salam, who allegedly drove the truck and the suspected narcotic substances from Kpandai to Accra.
Police said efforts were underway to locate and arrest Salam.
The two suspects are assisting with investigations, while the truck and suspected narcotics remain in police custody as exhibits.
The allegations against the suspects are yet to be tested before a court.
