The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed that proxy voting will not be allowed in its 2026 presidential primaries, despite receiving multiple petitions from members requesting a review of the ban.

Joe Osei Owusu, Chairman of the NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee, announced the decision following a thorough examination of concerns raised by party stakeholders.

He explained that the committee considered all petitions but concluded that maintaining the ban is essential to ensure a transparent, credible, and incident-free election.

“We’ve listened to petitions from various sections of the party and carefully considered them. For the sake of a respected, accessible, and very credible election, the ban on proxy voting will remain,” Osei Owusu stated.

As a result, all delegates eligible to vote in the 2026 primaries must be physically present at their designated polling centres to cast their ballots.
