A suspected armed robber, identified as Clement Kofi Aidoo, also known as Yaw, Paddy, and Joseph Abequaye, was shot dead during a police operation at Danso near Bawjiase in the Awutu Senya District.

The operation followed investigations into a violent robbery reported in Labone. Police said the incident occurred in the early hours of February 6, 2026, after the suspect allegedly resisted arrest.

“Upon spotting the officers, the suspect jumped through a window, wielding a sharp cutlass, and attempted to attack them. Our officers opened fire, critically injuring him,” a police source stated. He was rushed to the Police Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending medical officer.

The operation was conducted following a petition filed on January 30, 2026, by the Inspector-General of Police to the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The petition was in response to a robbery reported by 77-year-old Madam Christiana Frimpong, who said armed men attacked her Labone home on December 4, 2025, tying her hands and legs, covering her face with a plastic bag, and stealing her Toyota Hilux pickup (GW 9834-25), an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and other valuables.

During the operation, officers recovered the stolen Hilux, several documents, the complainant’s mobile phone, and identification cards, including a Voter ID and a Police ID belonging to G/Sgt Daniel Kusi Appiah of the Kaneshie Divisional Headquarters.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had previously been employed as a domestic worker through the KKN Domestic and Recruitment Agency. G/Sgt Appiah told investigators that the suspect, who had been working at his residence since November 1, 2025, allegedly stole his Toyota Camry (GC 123-12), police and voter ID cards, GH¢12,200 in cash, and other personal items while assisting him at Ridge Hospital on November 14, 2025.

Police identified the suspect as a native of Bontroase in the Central Region. On January 25, 2026, he was reportedly seen driving the stolen Camry in Bontroase but abandoned the vehicle at Kojoacquah Village during a hot pursuit.

The police are continuing investigations to determine whether the deceased suspect had accomplices involved in the Labone attack and other reported robberies.
