Baah Acheamfuor, Deputy Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, has expressed confidence that Ghana’s economy will see significant improvements in the near future, even though it is currently stable.

Speaking with Kwame Tanko on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show on Lawson TV on Monday, February 9, 2026, Acheamfuor said Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has assured him that the government’s economic measures will produce substantial gains for Ghanaians, provided no major catastrophes occur.

“We are not blaming the Russia-Ukraine or Israel-Iran conflicts,” he said. “We have a good leader at the helm of affairs, and if current measures continue, Ghanaians will witness bigger economic gains than what we are seeing now.”

Acheamfuor noted, however, that some traders have taken partisan decisions not to reduce commodities prices, which he described as a challenge to economic progress. He stressed that citizens also have a role to play in supporting national growth.

On complaints about high transport fares, he explained that Ghana currently has no laws requiring drivers to join transport unions.

“It is an individual responsibility to act realistically. If the government brings buses to transport passengers and drivers complain, they are undermining the efforts to improve transport services,” he said.

The Deputy Regional Secretary urged all stakeholders, including traders, transport operators, and citizens, to cooperate with government initiatives, emphasizing that meaningful economic progress requires contributions from both leadership and the public.
