Self-Styled Pastor Arrested Over Alleged Romance Scam, Fraud and Blackmail
Police say suspect lured women with marriage promises, extorted money and shared intimate images without consent.

A self-styled pastor, Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service over allegations of orchestrating a romance scam involving false marriage promises, financial fraud, blackmail and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
According to a Police statement issued on Monday, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly posed as a pastor conducting online church services on Instagram, where he targeted women by claiming God had revealed they were destined to become his wives.
Investigators say Kwarteng allegedly gained the confidence of his victims by visiting their families and presenting them with promise rings as a sign of commitment.
Police further allege that he persuaded some victims to send intimate photographs, which he later used to blackmail them into making financial payments.
The suspect is also accused of convincing several victims to invest in a supposed car tyre import business. Under the pretext of shipping and clearing containers of tyres, he allegedly collected thousands of dollars before cutting off communication with them.
Investigations further indicate that his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, allegedly received and shared some of the victims’ intimate images and is accused of threatening the women.
So far, seven victims have officially reported the matter to the Police, with investigations suggesting the alleged offences date back to 2021.
Both Kwarteng and Amoasah have been arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court One on charges including conspiracy to commit crime, defrauding by false pretences and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
The court remanded Kwarteng into Police custody until August 6, 2026, while Amoasah was granted bail.
The Ghana Police Service says investigations are ongoing and has appealed to anyone who may have experienced similar incidents involving the suspect to report to the nearest Police station to assist with the case.
