The Department of Urban Roads (DUR) has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Kumasi Inner Ring Road on Sunday, September 6, 2026, to allow the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to undertake essential works.
The affected stretch runs between the Ahodwo Roundabout, around the Georgia Hotel Junction, and the Ark Intersection.
According to DUR, the road will be closed to traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to facilitate GRIDCo’s decommissioning of conductors as part of ongoing upgrades to service lines connecting the Anwomaso and Abinkyi substations.
The Department said the temporary closure is necessary to protect workers and road users while the exercise is ongoing.
Motorists using the affected route have been advised to plan their journeys ahead of time, use alternative routes and follow traffic signs and directions at designated points.
Recommended alternative routes include Harper Road, Melcom Road and Lake Road.
DUR has appealed to motorists and other road users for their cooperation during the closure.
The Department expressed regret over the inconvenience and urged the public to adjust their travel plans and comply with all traffic management measures throughout the exercise.
