Election Watch Ghana has raised alarms over the repeated reruns of parliamentary elections in constituencies like Kpandai, warning that such occurrences undermine public trust and strain taxpayers’ money.
In a statement issued on Thursday, December 11, the organisation stressed that the impartiality of electoral officers is crucial for conducting free, fair, and credible elections. They noted that the rising number of reruns exposes gaps in election management and administration, signaling an urgent need for reforms.
The group urged all political actors in Kpandai, including the NPP and NDC, to participate actively in the upcoming by-elections, emphasizing that inclusive engagement is vital for a strong and participatory democracy.
Election Watch Ghana also called on the Electoral Commission to enhance its operations, adhere strictly to electoral guidelines, and improve transparency and accountability in election management. Addressing these operational inefficiencies, they said, would help prevent unnecessary and costly reruns in the future.
The organisation concluded by encouraging citizens and stakeholders to support reforms that strengthen electoral integrity and restore public confidence in Ghana’s democracy.
