The Ghana Police Service has successfully thwarted a planned robbery attempt along the Ejura–Nkoranza Highway following an intelligence-led operation near Miminaso No. 2 in the Ejura-Sekyedomase Municipality.
The operation, carried out on April 9, 2026, was launched after intelligence indicated that a six-member robbery gang was preparing to ambush and rob motorists using the stretch of road.
Police sources say the group was led by one Mahamadu Fuseini, also known as “Shaini.”
Acting on the tip-off, a police operational team moved into a nearby bush area where the suspects were believed to be lying in wait. However, upon spotting the approaching officers, the gang reportedly mistook them for unsuspecting victims and opened fire.
The police returned fire, resulting in one suspect being shot dead, while the remaining members of the gang, including the alleged leader, fled into the bush.
Items retrieved from the scene include a pump-action gun loaded with four live cartridges, two spent cartridges, and three keypad mobile phones. Two additional live cartridges were also found on the deceased suspect, along with a talisman tied around his waist.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Atebubu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police say efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the remaining members of the gang.
