Police Arrest Six Over Shooting Incident Involving Adwoa Safo

The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with a shooting incident involving former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in Accra on June 21, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit and signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Juliana Obeng, the arrests followed investigations into reports of gunfire at a private residence in the area.

Police officers who searched the premises recovered five pump-action guns, a Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment.

The statement indicated that personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on a special assignment, responded to a distress call from the residence.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers established that a ceremony was taking place at the home of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, popularly known as Akofena.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ms. Safo later arrived at the residence and attempted to gain entry but was allegedly denied access by individuals assigned to provide security.

Police say an altercation subsequently ensued, during which armed security personnel allegedly discharged their weapons. Ms. Safo sustained injuries, while investigators discovered multiple bullet holes in her vehicle.

The six suspects, along with the recovered weapons and other exhibits, have been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.

The police also stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals who may have been involved in the incident.

Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
