In a rare show of bipartisan unity, the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe and NPP flagbearer aspirant, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, joined hands with the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ing. Abdullah Hamidu of the NDC, to celebrate the 41st National Farmers Day in the Bosomtwe District.

This year’s national theme—“Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future”—set the tone for a ceremony filled with hope, collaboration, and renewed commitment to the agricultural sector.

A Celebration of Dedication

Addressing hundreds of enthusiastic farmers, Dr. Adutwum commended the men and women whose daily toil feeds the nation.

He stressed that Ghana owes its developmental progress to the unwavering dedication of its farmers.

“Our nation appreciates your efforts in nation building. The farmers of Bosomtwe are doing a fantastic job, and your hard work continues to sustain our economy,” Dr. Adutwum said.

The MP, who is also vying for the NPP presidential flagbearership, highlighted the importance of continuity and collaboration across political divides.

He applauded the measures being implemented by the DCE to support the agricultural sector in Bosomtwe and acknowledged the broader national policy directions.

“President Mahama’s good measures will help our farmers thrive, and he is continuing the solid legacy former President Akufo-Addo built for the sector. I am confident the DCE’s interventions will further uplift our hardworking farmers,” he added.

Dr. Adutwum also appealed to residents to rally behind the DCE to accelerate development across Bosomtwe.

DCE Hamidu: Service Beyond Politics

Taking his turn, Hon. Ing. Abdullah Hamidu expressed deep gratitude to farmers for their resilience and hard work.

He used the occasion to present a striking profile of the district, noting that Bosomtwe comprises 67 communities, 35 electoral areas, a population of over 174,000, and 13 senior high schools, while sharing borders with seven constituencies.

Ing. Hamidu conveyed a special message from the President:

“The President has asked me to tell you that next year, farmers in Bosomtwe will witness even greater things. Government will set up new funds to support you and expand agricultural opportunities.”

He highlighted ongoing projects including the Nkoko Nketenkete poultry initiative, urging residents to patronize locally produced chicken. He also pledged massive infrastructural enhancements to support farmers and traders.

“We hope to open the new Aputuogya market God willing next year, so traders will have a proper place to conduct business. Jachie, Esereso, Feyiase—all these communities remain top priorities,” he assured.

Hamidu further announced that the Accra–Kumasi Expressway, promised by government, will feature key access through Bosomtwe.
He also disclosed that contractors would soon return to the Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sewua to complete outstanding works ahead of full operationalization.

Despite his NDC affiliation, the DCE underscored his commitment to nonpartisan service.

“I am an NDC member, yes, but I am here to serve all—regardless of political affiliation. Bosomtwe is lagging behind, and with unity we will lift this district. With support from Assembly Members, we will work to ensure Bosomtwe is elevated to a Municipal Assembly in the next reclassification.”

Unity for Progress

The joint presence of Dr. Adutwum and DCE Hamidu sent a powerful message of harmony and purpose. For many attendees, the collaboration reflected a shared belief that development—especially in agriculture—thrives when leaders rise above partisan lines.

Mr. Achambu Joel, who was crowned the overall best farmer, told Lawson News he is overjoyed with the recognition and has no plans to slow down. “I will work even harder to win more awards next year,” he said.

He admitted he did not expect to win but is grateful for the achievement. Mr. Achambu also encouraged fellow farmers who did not receive awards not to give up. “Farming is not a failure. Keep working hard, and one day it will be your turn,” he urged.

Farmers and the residents left the ceremony both inspired and reassured, confident that Bosomtwe’s future is anchored on unity, support, and strategic investment.
