The National Peace Council has strongly condemned the resurgence of violence in Nkwanta, which has reportedly claimed at least five lives, describing the situation as both troubling and unexpected.
The Council noted that the escalation comes just weeks after it facilitated a dialogue among key stakeholders in the area, which resulted in a 13-point peace agreement aimed at restoring lasting stability.
Speaking to the media, the Council’s Public Relations Officer, Kwesi Yirenkyi, expressed disappointment over the renewed tensions despite the commitments made during the engagement.
He emphasized that all parties had agreed to uphold the peace declaration following the dialogue held earlier in March, making the recent outbreak of violence particularly concerning.
The Council condemned the killings and called on security agencies to intensify investigations into the incidents. It also urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and recommit to peaceful coexistence.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has deployed additional personnel to the Nkwanta South Municipality in an effort to restore calm and prevent further escalation.
