The Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Abdullai Zakaria, has been hospitalised after allegedly being attacked by students on campus over claims that he buried a newborn baby on the school grounds.

Mr Zakaria sustained serious head injuries during the incident, which reportedly involved the use of cutlasses.

He was first taken to the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital in Obuasi before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further medical attention.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi and Chairperson of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), Faustilove Appiah Kannin, confirmed the incident in an interview stating that the headmaster suffered deep cuts to his head.

According to Ms Appiah Kannin, the security council will hold an emergency meeting to assess the situation and determine the next steps while investigations continue into the cause of the violence.

She added that a decision on whether the school should be temporarily closed will depend on the outcome of the meeting and the security assessment.

Meanwhile, armed police officers have been deployed to the school to restore calm, protect lives and property, and prevent any further escalation.
