GJA Reconstitutes Statutory Committees to Enhance Governance and Member Engagement

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has announced the reconstitution of its statutory committees as part of its strategic efforts to bolster governance, professional growth, member participation, and key programs.

This initiative, carried out in accordance with Articles 30, 31, and 32 of the GJA’s 2004 Constitution, aims to support the National Executive in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities and advancing the interests of journalists nationwide.

In a statement issued by the GJA’s General Secretary, Dominic Hlordzi, the association emphasized that the new committees comprise experienced journalists, media managers, and professionals whose expertise will contribute significantly to the organization’s development.

“The restructured committees consist of seasoned journalists, media managers, and professionals whose dedication and expertise will help achieve the Association’s goals,” the statement noted.

The five key statutory committees are:

Membership Vetting Committee
Professional Development Committee
Social Affairs Committee
International Relations Committee
Finance and Resource Mobilisation Committee

Committee Leadership and Members

Membership Vetting Committee (Chair: GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour)Members include veteran journalist Kissi Yeboah (former Ghana News Agency), Seth Eyiah (Editor-in-Chief of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation), Peter Ankomah (Editor of Daily Dispatch), and Nana Yaa Konadu (Peace FM presenter).

Professional Development Committee (Chair: Vice President Rebecca Ekpe)Members include Kofi Yeboah (former GJA General Secretary and lecturer), Cliff Ekufful (Assistant Editor at New Times Corporation), George Ramsey Benamba (Chief Editor of GNA), and Kweku Owusu Peprah (Head of Joy Brands at Multimedia Group).

Social Affairs Committee (Chair: Organising Secretary Suleiman Mustapha)Members are Isaac Owusu Asare (GBC Editor), Linda Asante Agyei (former GJA Vice President), Isaac Nuamah Yeboah (Daily Analyst Editor), and Maame Efua Mensah (UTV Editor at Despite Media).

International Relations Committee (Chair: General Secretary Dominic Hlordzi)Members include Mary Mensah (Foreign Editor at Graphic Communications), Zambaga Rufai (Freelance Journalist), Ken Sackey (Deputy News Editor at GNA), and Yaw Obeng Manu (Editor of The Publisher).

Finance and Resource Mobilisation Committee (Chair: Treasurer Bertha Badu Agyei)Members include Charles Benoni Okine (Director at MIIF), Audrey Dekalu (Former GJA Treasurer), Nii Odartey Lamptey (Senior Manager at GBC), and Michael Ocquaye (Deputy News Editor at GCG).

The GJA expressed confidence that the diverse expertise of these committees will enhance professionalism, deepen member engagement, and support the association’s strategic initiatives.
“The National Executive believes that the experience and professionalism of committee members will strengthen the organization, uphold high journalistic standards, and promote the welfare of media practitioners across Ghana,” the statement added.
The committees are scheduled to be officially inaugurated on Monday, August 17, 2026, during the GJA’s 77th Anniversary Lecture and Symposium at the British Council in Accra.
The GJA also appreciated all members who accepted the call to serve, viewing their commitment as a vital contribution to advancing journalism and improving the welfare of Ghanaian media practitioners.
Looking ahead, the GJA pledged to work closely with these committees to promote ethical journalism, protect press freedom, enhance journalists’ welfare, and strengthen the association as Ghana’s leading professional body for media practitioners.
