The Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has held its maiden Inter-Officers Gala aimed at strengthening unity among party executives, officers, and affiliated wings as the party prepares for the crucial 2028 general elections.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Ashanti Regional Organizer, Dr. Francis Adomako, popularly known as Francois, brought together party officers in a spirited football competition designed not only for recreation but also to foster reconciliation, teamwork, and renewed commitment to the party’s mission of reclaiming political power.

At the end of the highly competitive gala, the party’s Treasurers emerged victorious, taking home a cash prize of GH¢5,000, a trophy, and medals.

Speaking during the event, Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa Constituency, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, popularly known as Mama Pat, stressed the urgent need for the NPP to remain united if it hopes to defeat the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2028.

According to her, the current economic hardship under President John Mahama’s administration has left many Ghanaians disappointed, despite the recent reduction in the dollar exchange rate.

“Ghana imports most of its goods, and once the dollar drops, prices should also reduce, but that is not happening. Everything remains expensive and the hardship is unbearable,” she stated.

She argued that Ghanaians are yet to feel the impact of the declining dollar and accused the NDC government of failing to deliver on key campaign promises, including job creation and stable electricity supply.

“We warned Ghanaians that if they voted for the NDC, dumsor would return, but they did not listen. Today, that is exactly where we are. There is no employment creation, teachers are being sacked, and hardship keeps increasing,” she said.

Hon. Appiagyei further criticized the government over the handling of the Agenda 111 hospital project initiated by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, stating that several completed hospitals are ready to operate, yet the government has refused to staff and activate them.

She maintained that the NPP remains the only political party capable of driving Ghana’s progress and restoring economic confidence.

Touching on recent political developments, Mama Pat also took a swipe at Chief of Staff Julius Debrah over his emotional moment during a thanksgiving service at the Church of Pentecost.

“I do not understand why Julius Debrah cried during his birthday thanksgiving. Maybe it is because of the disappointment and how the NDC government has disappointed Ghanaians,” she jabbed.

Dr. Francis Adomako, the architect of the event, explained that the gala forms part of a broader reorganization strategy to rebuild party cohesion after the presidential primaries.

“This is reorganization of the party. Before the primaries, everyone had their preferred candidate, but now Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been elected as our flagbearer, and we must all rally behind him,” he said.

He emphasized that the football gala symbolizes teamwork and communication, noting that just as players coordinate on the field, party officers must also work together politically.

“This is the maiden edition, and it is geared toward Election 2028. It will become an annual event. This is about unity, forgiveness, and bringing everybody together. If we remain united, Insha Allah, Dr. Bawumia will become the next President of Ghana in 2028,” he declared.

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. DaCosta Aboagye, also underscored the importance of the gathering, describing it as both a political and health-conscious initiative.

“As a party in opposition, we are reorganizing. Beyond reuniting the party, this gala also promotes physical and mental health through exercise,” he noted.

He said the ultimate objective is for the NPP to recapture power in 2028, stressing that unity remains the foundation for victory.

“Regardless of what we do, if the party is not united, it will be difficult. The youth are disappointed because Mahama promised jobs and a 24-hour economy but has failed to deliver. Unemployment is rising, and many young people are discouraged,” he stated.

He further defended the NPP’s legacy, highlighting flagship interventions such as Free SHS and Agenda 111 as examples of policies that benefited Ghanaians.

“Today, dumsor is back, especially in the Ashanti Region where lights go off almost every day. Ghanaians have missed the NPP and will continue to miss us. We must unite and work hard to convince them to vote for us again,” he added.

Also lending his voice, Alfred Thompson, NPP Council of State Chairman for the Central Region and National NPP Treasurer hopeful, praised Dr. Francis Adomako for initiating what he described as a strategic and timely intervention.

“Ashanti Region has set the tone, and other regions must emulate this example. The battle ahead is serious against a party that uses lies and propaganda to win elections and govern,” he said.

He urged party members to forgive one another, bury internal differences, and focus on the bigger task of rescuing Ghana.

“The NDC thrives on propaganda, but the country needs the NPP. Every member must forgive each other and remain united because Ghana needs us,” he concluded.

The gala ended on a high note with renewed optimism among party faithful, as leaders and executives pledged to put aside divisions and work collectively toward returning the NPP to power in 2028.
