Govt Annuls Mining Licences Issued After December 7 to Fight Galamsey
Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources takes bold steps to protect forest reserves and water bodies from galamsey devastation.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has revoked all mining licences issued after December 7, 2024, in a decisive move to combat illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Announcing the decision, sector minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah revealed that the revocation followed recommendations from the EPA, Minerals Commission, Forestry Commission, and Water Resources Commission.
The move aims to curb the environmental damage caused by illegal mining in forest reserves and water bodies.
Buah also highlighted that seven out of nine affected forest reserves have been successfully reclaimed. Despite the revocation, affected parties can appeal to ensure due processes are followed.
