NPA Raises February Price Floors as OMCs Adjust Pump Rates

NPA sets minimum fuel prices for February, prompting OMCs to revise pump rates

Story Highlights
  • NPA sets petrol at GH¢9.99/litre, diesel at GH¢10.95/litre, and LPG at GH¢9.05/kg.
  • GOIL and Star Oil adjust pump prices to comply with the new floors.
  • Companies previously selling below the floors are compelled to raise prices.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has announced new price floors for petroleum products for the first pricing window of February 2026, setting the minimum rates at which Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs) can sell. The directive, effective February 1–15, 2026, aims to prevent undercutting and maintain market stability.

New Price Floors

  • Petrol: GH¢9.99 per litre, up from GH¢9.80 (≈1.94% increase)

  • Diesel: GH¢10.95 per litre, up from GH¢10.47 (≈4.58% increase)

  • LPG: GH¢9.05 per kilogram

OMC Adjustments

Several major fuel companies have already aligned their pump prices with the new floors:

  • GOIL, the state-owned operator, now sells petrol at GH¢9.99 per litre across 200 stations, up from 150. Diesel under its discounted offer is GH¢11.90 per litre, rising from GH¢11.21, while the regular pump price is GH¢12.55 (up from GH¢11.96). Regular petrol prices remain at GH¢10.99 for standard petrol and GH¢13.97 for Super XP 95.

  • Star Oil is selling discounted petrol at the floor of GH¢9.99, while regular petrol prices are around GH¢10.56 at select stations. Diesel is retailing at GH¢11.56 and RON 95 at GH¢12.54.

Compelled Compliance

OMCs that previously engaged in price competition must now adjust upwards to meet the new regulatory minimums. For example:

  • Zen Petroleum, which sold petrol at GH¢9.94 per litre, must raise it to at least GH¢9.99.

  • JP Oil must increase SupremA petrol from GH¢9.89 to GH¢9.99 and SupremO diesel from GH¢10.89 to GH¢10.95.

Industry analysts anticipate that more companies will revise and increase their pump prices as the February pricing window progresses.
