Nine miners are feared trapped after a mining pit collapsed on Wednesday evening at Konongo in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The miners were reportedly working underground when the pit suddenly caved in, blocking their exit and trapping them beneath debris.

Eyewitnesses say the collapse occurred during active operations at the site, triggering panic among other workers who rushed to raise alarm.

Emergency response teams, alongside fellow miners, have since been engaged in rescue efforts at the scene, working to clear rubble and reach the trapped workers.

However, as of the time of reporting, no survivors had been retrieved from the collapsed pit.

Authorities are expected to continue rescue operations while assessing the cause of the incident and the safety conditions of the mining site.
