New Health Recruits Face August 20 Deadline to Secure Appointments – Akandoh

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has directed newly recruited health professionals posted to health facilities across the country to report to their assigned duty stations by Thursday, August 20, 2026, or risk forfeiting their appointments.
The Minister said the deadline is intended to ensure that vacant positions are quickly filled and that health facilities do not face delays in receiving much-needed personnel.
According to Akandoh, the government secured financial clearance before beginning the recruitment exercise to guarantee that newly employed health professionals would be paid without unnecessary delays.
He explained that the decision was aimed at avoiding the accumulation of salary arrears, which has affected some health professionals recruited in previous years.
The Minister made the disclosure on Wednesday, August 12, during a courtesy call by members of the Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives.
He said recruits who reported early had already begun receiving their salaries, stressing that the government would not allow new salary arrears to accumulate.
Akandoh therefore urged all recruits who have yet to report to do so on or before August 20.
He warned that those who fail to meet the deadline could lose their appointments, after which the Ministry would undertake a “mop-up” exercise to replace recruits who decline or fail to take up their postings.
The Minister maintained that the government cannot keep health positions vacant indefinitely when there are professionals available to fill them.
