Farmer Finds Injured European Migratory Bird; Local Authorities Step In for Care

A wounded black kite, believed to have migrated from Brussels, Belgium, has been rescued by a farmer in Assin Breku, located in the Assin North District of Ghana’s Central Region.
The bird, thought to have been shot while preying on domestic chickens, was discovered in a weak state by 32-year-old farmer Ebenezer Lativi.

A metal ring on the bird bore the inscription “Museum Science, 1000 Brussel,” along with the website www.ring.ac and a unique identification code, H220252, confirming its connection to the Brussels Museum of Natural Sciences.

Following the rescue, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Sylvester Amakye-Nyarko, instructed that the bird be handed over to local veterinary officers for treatment and proper care.
