A 40-year-old man identified as Yaw Nyarko has died after he was allegedly attacked by the brother of a woman he reportedly attempted to rape at Akyem Batabi in the Eastern Region.

The suspect, 28-year-old Bismarck Gbafa, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations after he voluntarily surrendered to the Akyem Oda Police.

According to residents, the deceased allegedly attempted to rape Celina Gbafa earlier in the day while she was returning from her farm but failed.

Reports indicate that Celina later informed her brother that Yaw Nyarko allegedly attacked her with a stick and attempted to sexually assault her. She said she managed to escape despite the suspect allegedly being armed with a machete.

The incident reportedly angered Bismarck Gbafa, who allegedly went in search of Nyarko. During a confrontation, Bismarck is said to have slashed Nyarko on the left leg with a machete, leading to severe bleeding.

Nyarko reportedly collapsed and later died from his injuries.

After realizing that the man had died, Bismarck surrendered himself to the Akyem Oda Police and reported the incident.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while police continue investigations into the matter.
