Reverend Daniel Yaw Donkoh, also known as D.Y. Donkoh, has appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly publishing a false prophecy on TikTok claiming that popular Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale would be assassinated.

The pastor is facing charges of publishing false news. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Presiding Judge Mrs. Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Basit granted bail to Rev. Donkoh in the sum of GHC 20,000, with three sureties, one of whom must be justified. As part of his bail conditions, the accused must report to the police every two weeks.

The case has been adjourned to August 27, 2025, for a Case Management Conference.

Pastor Sought Shatta Wale’s Attention Through Viral Video

Defense counsel appealed for bail, citing Rev. Donkoh’s status as a family man with four children, a known residence, and his role as the founder of a church located in Israel, Tabora (Accra). The lawyer emphasized that the pastor had cooperated fully with the police and posed no flight risk or threat to the investigation.

Prosecuting the case, Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye said the complainant, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, is a musician and entrepreneur residing in East Legon, Accra.

On July 21, 2025, Shatta Wale’s Public Relations Manager, Samuel Baah Atuobi (aka Sammy Flex), reported to police that a video had been circulating since July 20, in which the accused pastor claimed to have had a vision that three armed men would assassinate Shatta Wale.

According to the prosecution, the video caused significant emotional distress to the artist, who has been living in fear since its release.

Police Intervene to Prevent Escalation

Attempts by the police to reach Rev. Donkoh initially failed. However, on July 25, authorities received intelligence that some of Shatta Wale’s fans were planning to storm the pastor’s church in retaliation for the video.

To prevent any potential disturbance, officers visited Donkoh’s church at Tabora Alhaji and invited him in for questioning.

During the investigation, Rev. Donkoh reportedly admitted to posting the video on his TikTok page, stating that his goal was to gain Shatta Wale’s attention.
