The Kasoa-Ofaakor Circuit Court has handed down a 25-year prison sentence with hard labor to Mohammed Bello, a suspect involved in a violent highway robbery on the Dabanyin stretch of the Winneba Highway.

The crime took place in the early hours of Sunday, July 6, 2025, when Bello and four others ambushed a Toyota Hiace, firing shots that injured four passengers and stealing cash and valuables.

Bello was quickly arrested by the Gomoa East District Police Command while trying to escape the scene. However, the other members of the gang remain at large.

After his arrest, Bello was moved to the Central East Regional Police Command, where he was formally charged, prosecuted, and convicted.

In a statement, police assured the public that efforts to capture the remaining suspects are ongoing and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring public safety and law enforcement.

Background:
The robbery happened around 12:30 a.m. near Gomoa Buduatta Junction on the Kasoa-Winneba Road. Bello’s group targeted passengers and drivers, seizing mobile phones, cash, and other personal items.

At the time of his arrest, Bello was found in possession of GH₵3,740, multiple phones (including two Samsung devices, a Tecno Spark 20, and an Itel keypad phone), a power bank, a woman’s purse, cigarettes, a wristwatch, a headset, a charger, and a pair of sandals identified by a victim.

The four injured victims received medical care and praised the police for the swift apprehension. Authorities have encouraged any other victims to come forward to assist with ongoing investigations.

The police have reiterated their determination to track down and bring the remaining perpetrators to justice.
