The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Grid Company Limited, Ing. Mark Awuah, has been asked to step aside pending investigations into the recent fire incident at the Akosombo power control facility, as authorities intensify efforts to determine the cause and impact of the outbreak.

The directive forms part of broader measures announced by the government following concerns over the stability of the national power transmission system after the fire, which disrupted electricity supply in several parts of the country.

According to official communications, the decision is aimed at ensuring a transparent and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which affected operations at key infrastructure linked to the national grid.

In a related development, top management changes have also been carried out within the Electricity Company of Ghana in the Ashanti Region. The reshuffle is part of ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency and address recurring power distribution challenges in the region.

The developments follow weeks of intermittent power outages and public concern over the reliability of electricity supply, particularly after the Akosombo fire incident, which impacted transmission capacity across multiple regions.

Government officials have indicated that further details on the investigation and restructuring exercise will be communicated in due course as efforts continue to stabilize the power sector and prevent future disruptions.
