Gov’t to Sponsor 800 Fans for 2026 World Cup – Kofi Adams
Government caps sponsorship amid rising travel and accommodation costs

- Kofi Adams says only 800 fans will be sponsored.
- Estimated cost per supporter is $9,250.
- Fans will cover visa and feeding expenses themselves.
The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced that the government plans to sponsor about 800 supporters to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to the Minister, the estimated cost per supporter is $9,250, covering airfare, accommodation, and local transportation throughout the tournament.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Adams explained that the high cost of participation influenced the decision to limit the number of beneficiaries. He noted that while the Supporters’ Union has a large membership, it would not be feasible to sponsor everyone.
He added that although the government will cover major travel expenses, selected supporters will be required to pay for their visa and daily feeding costs as their contribution.
The Minister also disclosed that the ministry has rejected proposals from individuals seeking contracts to provide meals for the supporters during the tournament, emphasizing that such arrangements will not be part of the government’s plan.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring Ghanaian fan representation at the tournament while managing costs effectively.
