Gov’t Declares April 3 and 6 as Public Holidays for Easter
Nationwide observance set for Good Friday and Easter Monday celebrations

- Ministry of the Interior Ghana declares April 3 and 6 as public holidays.
- Dates mark Good Friday and Easter Monday.
- Citizens urged to observe the season peacefully and reflect spiritually.
The Ministry of the Interior Ghana has officially declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as statutory public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebrations.
In a statement issued on March 30, the Ministry confirmed that the dates correspond to Good Friday and Easter Monday, both of which will be observed nationwide.
The holidays provide an opportunity for Christians across Ghana to commemorate the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ—key events in the Christian faith. Good Friday marks the crucifixion, while Easter Monday continues the celebrations following the resurrection.
Easter in Ghana is typically celebrated with church services, family gatherings, and various social activities. Popular destinations such as Kwahu are expected to attract large crowds for the annual festivities.
The Interior Minister, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, urged the public to observe the holidays peacefully and in accordance with the law, while reflecting on the spiritual significance of the season.
