Government Pledges GHC1 Billion for Bawku Development, Supports Otumfuo’s Mediation

The Government of Ghana has unveiled a GHC1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund to spearhead post-conflict reconstruction and development in the Bawku area of the Upper East Region.
The initiative follows the endorsement of the Bawku Conflict Mediation Report presented by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
The fund, set to be disbursed over three years from 2026 to 2028, will target key infrastructure and socio-economic recovery projects. These include roads, healthcare and educational facilities, irrigation systems, dam projects for year-round agriculture, security installations, and economic and commercial infrastructure.
President John Dramani Mahama has instructed that the fund be overseen by a high-level committee chaired by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, with membership including the Upper East Regional Minister Donaltus Akamuguri and Majority Leader and Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga.
According to the government, the initiative aims to restore Bawku’s historic role as a major economic and trading hub, while promoting peace, reconciliation, and sustainable development in the region.
