A 30-year-old ginger farmer has been arrested by the Toase Police in the Ashanti Region for allegedly cutting off the hand of a 19-year-old suspected thief in Atwima Trabuom.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. when the teenager allegedly tried to steal ginger from the farmer’s farm. During the alleged confrontation, the suspect’s right hand was reportedly severed.
Speaking in an interview, the Unit Committee Chairman, Kwadwo Amankwa, said the young man had left home on Friday night and returned early Saturday morning with his hand missing.
“I saw the young man a few days ago with both hands intact, but on Friday morning he came back without his right hand. He claimed the ginger farmer was responsible,” Amankwa said.
He added that the suspect had reportedly visited several ginger farms in the area prior to the incident.
The police were notified, and the farmer has been taken into custody and is assisting with investigations.
