The Ghana Education Service (GES) has introduced a harmonised prospectus listing the items required for students entering senior high school (SHS) for the 2026/27 academic year.
The standardised list is intended to guide parents, guardians and students as they prepare for the new academic year, covering requirements for both boarding and day students.
Items for Boarding Students
The prospectus lists the following items:
- Hard-body suitcase or trunk
- Chop box (wooden or plastic)
- Drinking cup (plastic or stainless steel)
- Plate and cutlery
- Toiletries, including deodorant, toilet roll, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap and pomade
- Two packs of sanitary pads for girls
- Decent sandals, as specified by the school
- Leather slippers
- Decent sneakers (black or white)
- Two pairs of school-specific socks
- Pyjamas/sleepwear
- Underwear
- Plastic bucket with cover and pail
- Bible/Quran and hymn book, where applicable
- Pillow
- Two student bedsheets
- Mosquito net
- School bag
- Mathematical set and scientific calculator
- Two plain white pillowcases
- Blanket and sleeping cloth
- Khaki trousers
- White trousers or school-specific trousers
- White dress for girls
- Two white shirts — one short-sleeved and one long-sleeved
- Two checked dresses, where applicable
- Student mattress
- School-specific shoes
- School-specific belt
- Hoe or cutlass
- Med Shea Organic mosquito repellent
Sanitation Items
Students are also required to select one of three groups of sanitation items.
Group 1
- One pair of hard hand gloves
- Five litres of liquid soap
- One kilogramme of washing powder
Group 2
- Small-size bleach
- Dustpan
- Long-handle broom
- Scrubbing brush
Group 3
- Standing mop and mop bucket
- Duster
- Short local broom
The prospectus states that all personal items should be embossed or embroidered with the student’s name.
Items for Day Students
Day students are required to provide:
- One mathematical set and scientific calculator
- Decent sandals, as specified by the school
- Decent sneakers (black or white)
- One school bag
Day students are also expected to select one of the three sanitation groups listed above.
The harmonised prospectus is expected to provide a uniform guide for parents and students across SHSs as preparations continue for the 2026/27 academic year.
