Gbande: Akufo-Addo Failed to Deliver Real Economic Results
Deputy General Secretary of NDC criticizes Akufo-Addo’s economic management during his presidency
- Gbande accuses Akufo-Addo of failing to deliver tangible economic progress
- He links cedi depreciation to Akufo-Addo’s policies and credits Mahama for recent improvements
- NDC highlights a clear contrast between Akufo-Addo’s and Mahama’s economic leadership styles
Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has sharply criticized former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for failing to produce meaningful economic improvements during his tenure.
Gbande accused Akufo-Addo of overseeing a period marked by the continuous decline of the Ghanaian cedi against major foreign currencies, without implementing effective solutions to reverse the trend.
He credited the recent strengthening of the cedi to sound economic policies and strong leadership under the current President, John Dramani Mahama.
According to Gbande, the stark differences between the two administrations clearly demonstrate the NDC’s more competent economic management.
During an interview on July 8, Gbande remarked:
“The high dollar rate was simply a result of Akufo-Addo’s ‘foreign accent’—his approach was disconnected from local realities. President Mahama, on the other hand, speaks with a local accent and puts Ghana’s interests first. Nana Addo’s polished foreign rhetoric didn’t translate into real results.”
He added, “The dollar was high because Akufo-Addo’s policies were out of touch. Mahama’s leadership has brought a grounded, Ghana-focused perspective.”
Gbande’s statements reflect the NDC’s ongoing effort to highlight President Mahama’s inclusive governance style as a contrast to what they describe as the elitist and detached rule of the previous administration.
