DVLA Warns Vehicle Owners Not to Pay More Than GH¢25 for Onboarding
DVLA Clarifies Digital Vehicle Onboarding Charges

- The DVLA has set the official fee for digital vehicle onboarding at GH¢25 and warns the public not to pay more
- The fee covers biodata verification only
- Vehicle owners are urged to deal directly with DVLA officers
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has confirmed that the official fee for digital vehicle onboarding is GH¢25, urging vehicle owners not to pay any amount above this charge.
In a statement released on Tuesday, January 27, 2028, the Authority explained that the vehicle onboarding exercise, which began fully in 2024, aims to verify and migrate all manually registered vehicles onto a digital platform.
This exercise is a key step toward the rollout of the digital licence plate system, expected later this year following amendments to LI 2180.
The DVLA clarified that the onboarding process requires the presence of the vehicle owner, the vehicle, registration documents, Customs Bill of Entry, and the owner’s Ghana Card for biodata verification.
While the full cost of onboarding is GH¢288.55, covering the Certificate of Title and Vehicle Registration Card (VRC), the fee has been reduced to GH¢25 for the biodata verification step ahead of the new licence plate system.
The Authority emphasized that the GH¢25 fee does not include the issuance of the Certificate of Title or VRC, which can be obtained later during the acquisition of new number plates. These documents are essential for establishing ownership, transfer records, fraud prevention, insurance processes, and vehicle history verification.
The DVLA also reassured vehicle owners that applications for these documents will be available at all DVLA offices when the new licence plates are issued.
Strongly warning the public, the Authority stated that no client should be asked to pay more than GH¢25 during the onboarding process and urged everyone to deal directly with DVLA officers, take official receipts, and report any staff demanding extra payments.
