A Basic 5 pupil at Falahiyat E/A Primary School Block “A” in Damongo, Savannah Region, is currently hospitalized at Damongo St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital following an alleged severe beating by his class teacher, Mr. Fatawu.

The child’s father, Abdul Wahidu Mahama, stated that the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 20, after the pupil scored 2 out of 8 on a homework assignment.

The teacher reportedly instructed the student and a few classmates to lie across dual desks, then allegedly used a wire cane to strike them on their backs and other parts of their bodies.

“My son tried to shield himself with his hands, but he was flogged heavily and verbally insulted for his poor performance,” Mr. Mahama said.

The following day, the pupil complained of severe pain, prompting his family to take him to the hospital after home remedies failed. He was admitted, prescribed medication, and later underwent surgery on Tuesday, January 27, at around 10 a.m.

The father noted that the teacher has not visited the child in the hospital, although the school headmistress and another staff member have checked on him.

Mr. Mahama is appealing to the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), and other relevant authorities to ensure justice. He emphasised, “This is about protecting our innocent future assets.”
