Curfew Lifted in Nalerigu and Surrounding Communities
Interior Ministry cites improved security as restriction in North East Region capital is withdrawn

- Government lifts curfew in Nalerigu with immediate effect.
- Decision follows improved security assessment by Regional Security Council.
- Residents urged to maintain peace and use non-violent means to resolve disputes.
The Ministry of the Interior has lifted the curfew imposed on Nalerigu and nearby communities with immediate effect, citing improved peace and security in the area.
In a statement issued on Monday, February 16, the Ministry said the decision was taken by the Interior Minister, acting on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council and through an Executive Instrument.
Nalerigu, the capital of the North East Region, had been placed under curfew as part of measures to maintain law and order amid heightened security concerns. The restriction formed part of broader efforts to prevent escalation of tensions and protect lives and property.
According to the Ministry, a recent security assessment by the Regional Security Council concluded that calm has been restored and the situation has stabilised sufficiently to justify lifting the curfew.
Despite the decision, the government urged chiefs, opinion leaders, youth groups and residents to continue exercising restraint. It emphasised the need for dialogue and non-violent approaches to resolving disputes and sustaining peace.
The statement further encouraged residents to focus on constructive efforts to consolidate the gains made in restoring order in the area.
