The Adenta Circuit Court has remanded a 30-year-old laundry attendant into police custody for allegedly publishing false information likely to cause fear and public panic.
The accused, Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, is alleged to have posted a video on his TikTok account, @breakingnewsghana, claiming that two military officers were plotting to assassinate President John Dramani Mahama.
The court, presided over by a Circuit Judge, did not take Razzaq’s plea and ordered that he be held in police custody pending his next appearance on February 9, 2026.
The prosecution is being led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, with the Ghana Police Service listed as the complainant in the case.
According to prosecutors, Razzaq on January 20, 2026, published a video naming Sergeant Amoh and Sergeant Joseph as the officers allegedly involved in the supposed assassination plot.
He was arrested the following day at Adjiringanor in the Greater Accra Region.
In his caution statement, Razzaq admitted to making the video but stated that he had never met the officers and did not know them personally. He explained that he had “chanced upon a post on social media” making similar claims, which prompted him to publish the video.
However, investigations revealed that he failed to provide investigators with the source of the alleged post.
