A fatal shooting at a mining company in Adelekezu near Dadwen, Axim District, left a young boy dead and caused significant property damage on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
The Western Regional Police Command reported that the incident erupted following a dispute between local youths and the company’s private security personnel. During a struggle, some youths reportedly tried to seize a security officer’s pump-action gun, prompting the officer to fire. The boy was rushed to Axim Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Angered by the shooting, local youths went on a rampage at the site, setting two 4×4 SUVs and two tipper trucks on fire, and damaging a pickup truck and a Toyota Land Cruiser. Eleven workers were rescued by police during the chaos.
Authorities have arrested five suspects — Gyenyame Owusu (38), Matthew Asamah (24), Nana Yaw (15), Yaw Opoku (16), and Kojo Agyei (21) — on charges related to harm and unlawful destruction of property.

The Western Regional Police Command has urged the community to remain calm and cooperate with investigations to ensure justice is served.
