Veteran gospel musician Bernice Offei battled dementia for about five years before her death at the age of 63, her former manager, Kwasi Ernest, has revealed.
According to him, the condition affected her memory and ability to perform everyday activities, eventually contributing to her disappearance shortly before her death.
Speaking in an interview, Kwasi Ernest said Bernice Offei’s condition had progressed to the point where she could become disoriented and struggle to find her way home.
He explained that the singer left home when her condition was triggered and was unable to locate her residence, prompting her family to launch a public search after their initial efforts proved unsuccessful.
Bernice Offei was later found and rushed to the hospital for medical attention. However, her condition deteriorated, and she died on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
Kwasi Ernest, who managed the gospel singer during part of her career, described her as a disciplined and God-fearing woman whose faith was reflected in her lifestyle.
He said she did not only preach the word of God but also made a conscious effort to practise what she believed.
