Benue Court Remands Woman Over Alleged Trafficking of 13 Girls to Ghana

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria, has ordered the remand of a woman accused of allegedly trafficking 13 girls to Ghana for prostitution.
The suspect, identified as Christiana Tengu Tsavkaha, also known as Christiana Angle, was arraigned on charges of conspiracy and human trafficking.
The court ordered that she be remanded at Yaikyor Prison and adjourned the case to October 29, 2026, for further proceedings.
The development was confirmed by Benue-based activist Zege Orkwande, who announced the arrest in a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 11.
According to Orkwande, Tsavkaha was arrested following an extended search for her in connection with the allegations.
He further cited statements attributed to the alleged victims, claiming that the suspect trafficked 13 girls from Benue to Ghana, where they were allegedly forced into prostitution.
The allegations have not yet been proven in court, and Tsavkaha remains presumed innocent unless found guilty.
The case has renewed concerns about the cross-border movement of young women under circumstances that could expose them to exploitation and human trafficking.
Further court proceedings are expected to provide more details about the allegations and determine the possible involvement of other persons in the case.
