The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has appealed to Ghanaians and party supporters to remain patient as the government works to expand job opportunities for the country’s youth.

His comments follow concerns over the limited number of vacancies in the ongoing recruitment into the country’s security services.

According to the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, although about 500,000 people applied for the recruitment exercise, more than 105,000 applicants only progressed to the medical stage, while just 5,000 positions are available for final enlistment.

Addressing party supporters in Dodowa, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah cautioned against rushing the government to address the situation, noting that sustainable solutions require time.

He stressed that strengthening the economy remains the government’s top priority, adding that the administration of John Dramani Mahama is working diligently to create more employment opportunities.

“The anger will not solve the problem. Without sufficient funds, how can we employ more than necessary? Fixing issues takes time. The first priority is to strengthen the economy, and President Mahama is working diligently on this,” he said.

He added that early signs of economic improvement are already emerging and urged citizens to allow time for government policies to generate more job opportunities.

“Rising impatience will not help. Let us learn to be patient. Things will improve, and this government is committed to opening up opportunities for all,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has called on the Ministry of the Interior to refund about GH¢113 million collected from applicants who were unsuccessful in the recruitment process.
