Interior Minister Urges Officers to Use New Assets Responsibly

- Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak warned the Police

- Muntaka urged officers to act with integrity and respect human rights
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has cautioned officers of the Ghana Police Service against abusing their authority, stressing that the newly commissioned 40 armoured vehicles are meant to protect citizens—not to oppress or intimidate them.
He urged officers to exercise their powers with fairness, integrity, and respect for human rights, saying true internal security can only be achieved when public trust and cooperation exist between citizens and law enforcement agencies.
Speaking at the handover ceremony on Thursday, December 4, the Minister also condemned recent attacks on police officers and other security personnel, describing such acts as unacceptable and dangerous to national peace.
“In recent years, we have witnessed deeply troubling attacks on police officers and other security personnel—assaults that put the lives of those sworn to protect us at risk. These attacks must stop. They have no place in a civilised society,” he stated.
Highlighting the purpose of the new vehicles, Mr. Muntaka made it clear that their enhanced capabilities are strictly for crime prevention and community protection.
“These armoured vehicles are not a licence for intimidation; they are instruments of protection, not oppression. Officers must not use their authority to abuse the very people they have sworn to protect,” he cautioned.
While describing attacks on police officers as unacceptable, the Minister equally reminded officers of their responsibility to uphold the rights of citizens and discharge their duties with professionalism and integrity.
