Armah-Kofi Buah Has Not Resigned From GoldBod – Lands Ministry Clarifies
Lands Ministry says minister only delegated board duties due to workload

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has dismissed reports that Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has resigned from the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 29, and signed by Zambaga Rufai Saminu of the Ministry’s Communications Directorate, the Ministry described the reports as false and said there had been no disagreement between the Minister and GoldBod.
The Ministry stated that Mr Armah-Kofi Buah has neither resigned from GoldBod nor had any dispute with the institution.
According to the statement, although the Minister initially served personally on the GoldBod Board, he nominated the Ministry’s Chief Director, Marcus Haligah, to represent him in January 2026.
The Ministry explained that the decision was an administrative arrangement necessitated by the Minister’s demanding schedule and extensive responsibilities.
At the time, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah was overseeing responsibilities across two ministries, making it difficult for him to personally attend all GoldBod board meetings and engagements.
The Ministry said the Minister therefore designated the Chief Director, a senior official of the institution, to represent him on the board.
It added that a recent clarification from GoldBod also confirmed that Mr Armah-Kofi Buah initially served on the board personally before nominating the Chief Director due to his inability to attend meetings regularly.
The Ministry has consequently urged the public and media organisations to disregard reports suggesting that the change in representation was linked to a disagreement, conflict or dissatisfaction with GoldBod.
It also highlighted several areas of ongoing collaboration between the Ministry’s agencies and GoldBod.
These include an agreement between the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) and GoldBod to intensify mineral exploration, as well as collaboration between the Responsible Cooperative Mining (rCOMSDEP) programme and GoldBod on responsible mining.
The Forestry Commission is also working with GoldBod on land reclamation, while GoldBod has supported the National Alternative Employment and Livelihood Programme (NAIMOS) with vehicles to strengthen activities within the mining sector.
The Ministry said Mr Armah-Kofi Buah remains committed to the government’s efforts to strengthen Ghana’s gold sector, increase local value retention, promote responsible mining and ensure that from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and GoldBod for information concerning the institution’s governance and the country’s mineral resources contribute to national development.
It has urged the public and media to rely on official statements from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and GoldBod for information concerning the institution’s governance and operations.
