Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on the current government to complete and operationalize all unfinished hospitals under the Agenda 111 initiative, a flagship project of his administration.

The Agenda 111 programme was designed to build 111 hospitals nationwide to expand access to quality healthcare.

Speaking over the weekend at the centenary celebrations of Kyebi Government Hospital, organized by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional State, Akufo-Addo stressed that finishing these hospitals would greatly strengthen healthcare delivery across Ghana.

He emphasised that healthcare should transcend politics.

“We must also be honest; not every project was completed during our term. Some facilities were far advanced but unfinished. Agenda 111 must continue. Continuity, not disruption, ensures health systems succeed,” he said.

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Overlord of Akyem Abuakwa State, echoed the call, urging stakeholders to invest in upgrading the century-old Kyebi Hospital.

“I am not the only one frustrated; nurses and doctors there are equally frustrated. Even after 100 years, Kyebi Hospital still lacks a scan machine and a quality laboratory,” he lamented.

Dr. Isaac Adu-Opoku Antwi, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, also highlighted pressing challenges, particularly the fact that children are sharing wards with pregnant women, which undermines care quality.

He appealed to the government for the construction of a dedicated maternity block, children’s ward, physiotherapy unit, and housing for health workers.
