A Gender-Based Violence Court in Accra has sentenced Kweku Fosu, 55, to 12 months in prison for sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl at Abossey Okai.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charge of indecent assault before the court, presided over by Mr. Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah. During his plea, Fosu expressed remorse, stating that he would not repeat the act of inserting his fingers into the vagina of minors, and admitted he could not explain his actions.

Prosecuting Superintendent of Police, Agnes Boafo, told the court that the victim’s father is a cleaner while the convict is a trader, both residing in Abossey Okai.

The assault came to light in November 2025, when the victim complained of vaginal itching. After initial first aid, the mother noticed sores and reddening around her daughter’s private parts. Upon questioning, the victim disclosed the assault, prompting the mother to lodge an official complaint with the police on December 10, 2025.

The Police Medical Report facilitated medical treatment at a government hospital. Fosu was arrested on January 8, 2026, cautioned, and later formally charged before his conviction and sentencing.
