- Sam George calls for Black Stars disbandment.
- He wants the GFA dissolved.
- Ghana has lost its opening two AFCON qualifiers.
Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Samuel Nartey George has called for the disbandment of the Black Stars and the dissolution of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following Ghana’s 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghana surrendered a two-goal lead at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, with Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan putting the Black Stars ahead before The Gambia staged a comeback to win 4-2.
The defeat was Ghana’s second consecutive loss in Group C, following a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in the opening qualifier. The Black Stars are currently without a point from their first two matches.
Reacting to questions on X, Mr George, who is also the MP for Ningo-Prampram, called for sweeping changes to Ghana’s football administration.
He wrote that his position remained unchanged and called for the team to be disbanded, the GFA to be sacked and Ghana to accept a possible two-year FIFA ban to allow for a rebuilding process.
The comments come amid growing calls for changes within Ghana football following the Black Stars’ poor start to the AFCON qualifying campaign. The GFA has confirmed that Ghana currently sit at the bottom of Group C with no points after two matches.
Ghana will next face Somalia in a double-header in October as the team continues its bid to qualify for the 2027 AFCON, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
