Mahama Warns SOEs Against Conflict Of Interest, Abuse Of Office

President John Dramani Mahama has warned government appointees and governing boards of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) against conflict of interest, abuse of office and the improper management of state resources.

He stressed that officials entrusted with managing public institutions must demonstrate integrity, transparency and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.

President Mahama made the remarks on Thursday, September 10, 2026, when he addressed the SIGA Governing Boards and CEOs Conference.

He urged governing boards and management teams of SOEs to ensure that their decisions and activities comply with the law and established procedures.

The President said procurement processes must be lawful, competitive and transparent, while recruitment and promotions must be based on merit.

He further called for contracts, investments and the disposal of state assets to be subjected to proper scrutiny and demonstrate value for money.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this administration will not tolerate conflict of interest or abuse of office,” President Mahama cautioned.

He also reminded boards of their responsibility to safeguard state properties, including land, buildings, equipment and investments under their custody.

According to him, the unauthorised disposal, encroachment or dissipation of state assets should not be treated as a minor administrative lapse, describing such acts as a breach of trust against the people of Ghana.

President Mahama reaffirmed the government’s commitment to holding officials accountable for the management of public institutions and resources.

The conference brought together governing board members and Chief Executive Officers of SOEs to deliberate on governance, accountability, performance and the effective management of state institutions.
