(VIDEO) Police, MTN Renew Partnership to Promote Road Safety and Driver Compliance

The Ghana Police Service and MTN Ghana have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening road safety, improving driver compliance and increasing public awareness as part of efforts to reduce road crashes nationwide.

The partnership, which forms part of a broader road safety and traffic management initiative, has recorded positive results since its launch last year.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alexander Kwaku Obeng, Director in charge of Administration, Research and Training at the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), disclosed this at a training workshop organised by the MTTD for MTN vehicle users at the company’s Nhyiaeso Main Office in Kumasi.

According to ACP Obeng, the initiative has contributed to improved vehicle safety standards among MTN drivers, with the company’s drivers setting an example for other road users.

“Since we did it last year, we’ve seen enhanced safe use of vehicles and maintained a zero-crash record. It’s natural to keep pushing,” he said.

The collaboration focuses on training corporate drivers, educating them on road traffic laws, promoting safe driving practices and supporting the use of digital traffic services and enforcement systems.

ACP Obeng said MTN’s participation also involves equipping its drivers with knowledge of new road traffic regulations, including digital compliance requirements and their responsibilities towards road safety.

He noted that such partnerships contribute to public health and safety while helping law enforcement agencies adopt smarter and more efficient approaches to traffic management.

The initiative, he added, aligns with national efforts to reduce road crashes and promote responsible driving across Ghana.

The Acting Director of the Inspectorate Division of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Kwasi Bonah Otuo Serebour, commended MTN for prioritising road safety.

He said people had moved from a reactive approach to a more proactive system, describing the shift as an important step towards addressing road safety challenges.

Mr. Serebour noted that road crashes continue to take a serious toll on the country, resulting in significant loss of lives and destruction of property.

He therefore urged companies and other corporate organisations to make road safety and compliance a priority by maintaining high safety standards for their vehicles and drivers.

More than 300 beneficiaries are participating in the workshop, which will be replicated in all regional capitals across the country.
