Herald Editor Larry Dogbey Granted Bail After Contempt Conviction

Journalist and Editor of The Herald newspaper, Larry Alans Dogbey, has been granted bail after being jailed for contempt of court.

Mr. Dogbey was sentenced on Thursday, June 25, by an Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Isaac Addo, after being found guilty of contempt in connection with publications relating to a legal dispute between businessman Kevin Okyere, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Springfield Exploration and Production Limited (SEP), and Petraco SA.

The contempt charges arose from articles published by The Herald concerning a petition filed by Petraco SA against Mr. Okyere.

According to the court, Mr. Dogbey breached an interlocutory injunction that restrained him from publishing further statements on the matter.

Following his conviction, the court has granted him bail pending the next stage of the legal proceedings.
