  • The Ghana Education Service says no school is authorised to charge any fees under the Free SHS policy.
  • Schools collecting “feeding fees” or any other charges risk violating national education policy.
  • Parents and students are urged to report any illegal payments to GES for investigation.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has reiterated that no school has been authorised to charge students or parents any form of fees under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the Service urged the public to ignore claims circulating online suggesting otherwise, describing them as misleading.

The GES stressed that any school demanding money under labels such as “feeding fees” is acting unlawfully and without approval from management. It reaffirmed the government’s continued commitment to sustaining and improving the Free SHS programme.

The statement further warned that any attempt to undermine the policy—either through misinformation or the imposition of unauthorised charges—would be treated as contrary to the national interest.

Parents and students who are asked to pay such fees have been advised to report the matter directly to GES authorities for investigation and action.
