  • The top two teams from each group will secure spots at the tournament in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
  • The Black Stars aim to bounce back after missing the 2023 AFCON and end their long wait for a fifth title.

Ghana will learn their opponents for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers when the official draw takes place on May 19, 2026, according to Confederation of African Football.

The Ghana national football team will be part of a 48-nation pool divided into 12 groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the tournament. The qualifying matches are scheduled to run between September 2026 and March 2027, offering multiple international windows for teams to secure their place.

The 2027 AFCON finals will be held from June 19 to July 17 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda—the first time the competition will be jointly hosted by three nations.

For Ghana, the upcoming qualifiers carry added importance after failing to qualify for the 2023 tournament in Morocco. The technical team, led by Carlos Queiroz, will be under pressure to guide the team back to Africa’s biggest football stage.

A four-time AFCON champion, Ghana last lifted the trophy in 1982 but has remained a competitive force on the continent. The 2027 campaign presents a new chance to end their long wait for continental glory while showcasing a new generation of talent, both locally and abroad, on a fresh East African stage.
