Bawumia Criticises Government Over ‘Dumsor’, Says Power Cuts Hurt Businesses

The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticised the government over ongoing power supply challenges, popularly known as “dumsor,” saying the situation is negatively affecting businesses across the country.
Speaking at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Mid-West Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sunyani, Dr Bawumia said he had been urged by many Ghanaians to deliver a message to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government regarding the impact of the persistent electricity outages.
He argued that repeated disruptions in power supply are creating instability for businesses, with many struggling to maintain operations and meet production demands.
Dr Bawumia also touched on the government’s proposed 24-hour economy policy, noting that many young people are still awaiting its implementation and the job opportunities it is expected to create.
According to him, expectations remain high among the youth, who see the policy as a key pathway to employment and economic improvement.
In addition, he said farmers have raised concerns about delayed payments owed to them and called on the government to clear outstanding arrears to support the agricultural sector.
