Ghanaian rap icon Reggie Rockstone has disclosed that he has quit smoking due to health concerns related to asthma.
In an interview, the veteran artiste said the decision forms part of broader lifestyle changes he has adopted as he has grown older.
Speaking with Kwame Dadzie, the 62-year-old musician revealed that while he experimented with smoking and alcohol in his younger years, he eventually made a conscious decision to stop several unhealthy habits.
He explained that his asthma condition, coupled with a family history of the illness, made continuing to smoke unsafe.
“I have done everything… with the ganja, I tried all of that before,” he said, adding that he avoided hard drugs because of his addictive personality.
“At this point, being that I am asthmatic, I got no business smoking again. My father was heavily asthmatic, my son has asthma, so I had no business smoking anyway,” he added.
Rockstone also spoke about wider changes to his lifestyle, including his diet and overall wellness routine. He noted that growing older has made him more health-conscious and intentional about what he consumes.
He said he has gradually cut out red meat, alcohol and processed sugar, and now focuses on healthier eating habits.
“Lately, I have specific food I eat. As I grew older I have become wiser. I had to make some drastic lifestyle changes,” he said.
The Makaa Maka hitmaker added that he prefers fruits such as watermelon and pawpaw and maintains a regular workout routine. He also stressed the importance of paying attention to one’s diet, comparing it to the care people give to maintaining their vehicles.
